College Readiness

One way to save time and money when it comes to college is for a student to be academically prepared for college-level work. For this reason, the Council works with the Kentucky Department of Education and Kentucky's postsecondary institutions to develop assessments and strategies to assist with student success.

Determining Readiness

Each year CPE staff work with institutional representatives to determine which assessments should be accepted as statewide college readiness indicators and which scores determine academic readiness. 

To be college ready, a student must meet minimum scores in the following areas:

• English (writing)
• Reading
• Math (quantitative reasoning)
• Math (college algebra)
• Math (calculus)

When a student meets these benchmarks, they can enroll in credit-bearing coursework. If not, the student will be required to enroll in corequisite education courses or a developmental education course (at KCTCS) in the areas where they did not meet the benchmark.
