The Kentucky Advising Academy (KAA) provides a free comprehensive series of professional learning and resources for school counselors, Family Resource/Youth Service Center (FRYSC) coordinators, and all professional educators as well as flexible opportunities to connect with higher education and postsecondary advising leaders.

The goal of the Kentucky Advising Academy (KAA) is to support Kentucky educators in providing students equitable access to postsecondary advising for a successful transition from their secondary education to their desired career. The KAA supports educators serving in advising roles by providing comprehensive professional learning sessions, online resources and networking opportunities centered around postsecondary advising.
College and Career Advising Toolkit
The College and Career Advising Toolkit is a comprehensive collection of tools, information and resources, which will serve as a hub for advisors across the commonwealth. The toolkit goes beyond academic advising to include information on student development, belonging and relationships. Other topics in the toolkit include career exploration, financial aid and literacy, postsecondary opportunities, reducing summer melt and leveraging data in advising. The data section provides advisors with timely, statewide data on everything from FAFSA completion rates to schools’ academic performance to dual credit statistics.

Guiding Futures: Tools and Strategies for Effective Postsecondary Advising in High Schools
Date/Time: Jan. 22, 2025, 10 a.m. ET
Providing postsecondary advice to high school students is crucial in helping them make well-informed decisions about their futures. With the right guidance, students can explore different career paths, understand the educational requirements and options for their chosen fields, and prepare for life beyond high school. In this session, participants will receive tools and resources to support students in reaching critical milestones for a successful postsecondary journey.
Participants will:
- Learn why advising is critical for students’ readiness for education, work, and life after high school.
- Preview the new Kentucky Advising Academy Postsecondary Advising Framework, a college and career advising system that provides counselors and advisors with a clear roadmap to guide their interactions with middle and high school students on their postsecondary path. The framework aligns with the individualized learning plan and Kentucky Career Studies Standards.
- Receive GEAR UP Kentucky’s High School Facilitator Guide, grade-level Advising Student Workbooks, and classroom lesson plans to support implementing postsecondary advising in their high school.
- Learn how GEAR UP lessons can be utilized to support students in Meeting Postsecondary Advising Framework Milestones.
One hour of EILA credit will be available.

Join the Kentucky Advising Academy for a one-hour webinar exploring Parchment's capabilities and Infinite Campus compatibility. Special guests Raquel Asencio-Garcia from Parchment and Dede Conner from the Kentucky Department of Education will cover important information and resources. Q and A time will be provided for participants to get answers to Parchment-related questions. One hour of EILA or FRYSC credit is available for those who attend the live session.
