Kentucky Virtual Library
Facilitated by the Council, the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) is a consortium allowing Kentucky libraries membership to access digital resources.
Kentucky's libraries join the consortia for the benefit of large discounts on subscription pricing. Through the statewide purchasing contracts coordinated by the KYVL, Kentucky's libraries save approximately $15 for every $1 invested in shared databases.
The three primary services gained by membership include:
- Databases - core resources accessible to the users of KYVL member libraries.
- Courier service - facilitating resource sharing among Kentucky's public and academic libraries.
- Kentucky Digital Library - a platform for shared digital archives in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Consortia membership includes nearly all Kentucky public libraries, Kentucky's eight public universities, the 16 colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, over 30 private Kentucky academic institutions, and nearly 150 school districts and 20 private schools.
